About ReImagine Challenge

Swiss Re ReImagine Challenge is a unique program where the to-be-graduates generate new ideas that can solve different business problems, create a workable solution, get mentored throughout by Swiss Re experts from different domains, and build a winning pitch. The finalists, under the guidance of Swiss Re leadership, will think through the problems and present their solutions.

What you need to do

Create a team of 1-5 students from same university, name the risk or opportunity you want to challenge, suggest how you would like to solve it and send your proposal until 17 March 2024.

Data & Technology in Insurance/Reinsurance

How can data & technology (e.g., statistics, machine learning, artificial intelligence) be leveraged to improve the efficiency and accuracy of reinsurance processes?

This may involve assessing various risks based on data (e.g.; what is the risk of a hailstorm in Bratislava?), automatically extracting information from documents (e.g.; what is the inception date of the contract?), or coming up with tailor-made products with more accurate pricing (e.g.; how does an individual's lifestyle affect the price of their health insurance?)

STEP 1: Registration

First Round – Idea Executive Summary Submission

Form a team of 1-5 students and create a team name.

Each of team members must register separately, using the team name and uploading the team presentation file.

In the first round, please submit a 1-slider PDF presentation of proposed solution on the challenge statement in English, latest by 17 March 2024.

1-slider PDF must contain following points:

  • Problem Description (describe the specific problem to be solved with proposed solution)
  • Proposed Solution (briefly describe the solution to solve the problem statement with)
  • Desired Outcome & Benefits (added value and impact your solution might bring)

The entries will be assessed by Swiss Re jury based on following Assessment Criteria: innovation, sustainability, impact of the proposed solution and overall quality of the presentation slide.

All shortlisted teams will be announced on 25 March 2024.

  • All members of a team should be from the same University (the same faculty or grade is not mandatory)

Terms of participation

1. Introductory provisions

1.1. These Terms of Participation (hereinafter referred to as the “Terms”) determine obligatory rules of the contest ReImagine Challenge (further as the “Challenge”).

2. Definitions

2.1. The organizer of the Challenge is Swiss Re Management AG, a joint stock company incorporated and existing under the laws of Switzerland, registered in the Commercial Register of the Canton of Zurich, under identification number CHE-428.449.283, acting through its branch Swiss Re Swiss Re Management AG, organizačná zložka, with its registered office at: Mlynské Nivy 12, 811 09 Bratislava, Slovak Republic, Identification Number:  48 293 270, registered with the Commercial Register of the City Court Bratislava III, Section: Po, Insert number: 2980/B (hereinafter referred to as the “Organizer”).   

2.2. To actively present the Challenge, the Organizer uses a web page (LINK).

2.3. Only natural persons registered through the above stated web page of the Organizer  (hereinafter referred to as the "User") can participate in the Challenge.

2.4. The User becomes contestant upon submitting the required information during the running of the Challenge and once their registration has been duly approved by the Organizer (hereinafter referred to as the "Contestant").

2.5. A Contestant will become a winner when he/she fulfils the conditions of the Challenge and win according to rules of the Challenge mentioned in the Terms (hereinafter referred to as the "Winner").

2.6. Organizer shall publish an announcement on its web page (LINK), which will state the date when the Challenge starts and ends.

2.7. The Challenge is started on the day which is designated in the announcement of the Challenge as the day when the Challenge starts.

2.8. The Challenge is finished by the day which is announced as the end of the Challenge.

3. General rules

3.1. Challenge is open to university students only. Students of full-time study and distance learning (bachelor’s type or master´s degree) who study in minimum the 1st year in university located in the Slovak Republic at the moment of opening for Challenge submissions are eligible to apply.

3.2. The Contestants create a team of minimum 1 and maximum 5 students from the same university, all must be from the same university located in the Slovak Republic. One team can be registered into the Challenge only once.

3.3. Jury members, their family members and persons, who participated in the preparation of the Challenge cannot participate in the Challenge.

4. The rights and obligations of the Organizer

4.1. The Organizer shall inform the Contestants that they became semi-finalists until 25 March 2024; finalists until 12 April 2024 via email provided by the User during the User’s registration on the Organizer´s web page.

4.2. The Organizer shall fulfil its obligation to hand over the prize to the Winners personally in the Organizer’s premises. The Organizer reserves the right to engage an external delivery service to deliver the prize to the address of the Winners, provided that the hand-over of the prize will not be able to take place in person in the Organizer’s premises.

4.3. The Organizer is not responsible for any damages which might be caused by the prize to the Winners.

4.4. The Organizer reserves the right to terminate the Challenge early without justification and to change the rules or the prize by updating these Terms. In such case the Contestant shall not have any right to compensation or settlement.

5. Reasons for exclusion from the Challenge

5.1. The jury consisting from the Organizer´s experts shall exclude submitted concepts which fail to meet the requirements specified in these Terms.

6. How to enter into the Challenge

6.1. To enter into the Challenge, the Users shall fill in and submit electronically the registration form which will be available on web page (LINK).  Following information must be provided in the registration form:

6.2.1. Name, Surname of the Contestant, and team name.

6.2.2. Name of home university and name of faculty of home university of the Contestant.

6.2.3. Email and phone number of the Contestant. These contact details will be used for communication between the Organizer and the Contestants.

6.2.4. Affidavit with the following wording “I hereby declare that I am over 18 years of age and at present I study at the above mentioned university or hereby declare I was a student when I registered and submitted the concept and simultaneously this work was not created after my graduation.”

6.2.5. Attachment which includes description of the concept (length specification for 1st round is one page in PDF format, length specification for 2nd round/Semi-Finals is seven pages in PDF format).

6.2.6 Answer to the questions stated in registration form.

6.3. After submission of the registration form, the Contestant receives confirmation e-mail from the Organizer with further instructions or information. After submitting the concept, it is not possible to edit or delete the concept.

6.4. Registration and entering into the Challenge is possible and valid only in the course of duration of the Challenge.

7. Language of the Challenge

7.1. The submitted concept as well as verbal presentations during grand finale shall be drawn up and presented in English language.

8. Selection and evaluation process

8.1. The jury will select a maximum of 15 semi-finalists, out of total number of submissions from the 1st round; then in the 2nd round the jury will select a maximum of 6 finalists out of semi-finalists. In the 3rd round, the jury will select 3 winners out of the finalists.

8.2. The concepts submitted or presented during the Challenge will be assessed based on evaluating criteria of innovation, sustainability, impact of the proposed solution and every project will be evaluated from the point of view of completeness of submitted materials that shall contain data about concept including problem description, proposed solution, milestones, target group, desired outcome, and benefits.

8.3. The announcement of semi-finalists, finalists and Winners will be posted on the Organizer´s web page (LINK); the semi-finalists and finalists will be notified via email.

9. Duration of the Challenge

9.1. The Challenge will be held from January 30, 2024 until April 30, 2024.

9.2. Timelines for the respective parts of the Challenge are as follows:

30 January 2024: start of registration.

17 March 2024: end of registration and the 1st round.

25 March 2024, semi-finalists' announcement.

07 April 2024, semi-final presentations´ submissions deadline.

15 April 2024, finalists' announcement.

30 April 2024, announcement of Winners.

10. Intellectual property rights

10.1. The Contestant acknowledges he / she is responsible for any, including unintentional, violation of any (ownership, copyright, personality, etc.) third party intellectual property rights. The User, by entering the present content, declares that he / she is not in violation of any third-party rights by storing or causing to be displayed any legally protected Intellectual property, ie. photography, visualization, design, etc. on LinkedIn or other social media.

11. Publications

11.1. The participation to the Challenge is subject to each participant accepting the Terms and agreeing to the processing of his / her personal data as requested and detailed in the registration form. This allows Swiss Re to communicate the results of the Challenge and any information relating to the Winner on the following web page (LINK), including posts on its social media platforms.

12. Prizes

12.1. The prizes will be handed over to the Winners no later than three months after the end of the Challenge.

12.2. 1st place: ReImagine Tour to Swiss Re headquarters in Zürich, Switzerland for the winning team

2nd place: language course worth 300€ for each team member

3rd place: language course worth 150€ for each team member

All Finalists will be offered with:

  • Invitation to Grand Finale which will include the Interactive Day in Swiss Re in Bratislava and the opportunity to engage with Swiss Re Leadership Team and experts 
  • Mentoring session with Swiss Re professionals
  • Certificate of Participation

12.3. Any prize will be either handed over physically by the Organizer to the Contestant or delivered to the home address by an external delivery service to be engaged by the Organizer or e-mail address of the Winner, provided that the hand-over of the prize will not be able to take place in person in the Organizer’s premises. Compliance with all applicable laws and regulations during delivery process is the sole responsibility of the external delivery service and the Organizer assumes no liability in this regard.

13. Final provisions

13.1. The competition is governed by Slovak law. Recourse to the courts is not permitted. Any taxes, fees or duties incurred in relation to the prize/reward will be borne by the Winner.

13.2. Under the Article 845 of the Act No 40/1964, the Civil Code, as amended, there is no legal claim to the prize. The prize from the Challenge may not be claimed in court or any other consideration or compensation of a financial or non-financial nature. Prizes that will not be collected will be handed over to the Organizer.

13.3. The Organizer reserves the right to not deliver any prize or reward should this constitute a breach of applicable laws and regulations.

13.4. These Terms are valid from March 7, 2024.

We take the privacy and security of your personal data very seriously. We handle personal data that we process to carry out our activities with care. We ensure a high degree information security in accordance with generally recognized standards and practices, and we only collect data that is necessary. Our employees are regularly trained in handling personal data and are obliged to maintain confidentiality.

This privacy notice explains how we use any data information we collect about you, and your rights in relation to your personal data. It applies in accordance with the applicable data protection law.

1) Who is the data controller?

2) What personal data do we collect about you?

The types of personal data Swiss Re will collect for the fulfillment of the specific purpose, referred to in the Section 3) below, may include: Name, Surname, University, Faculty, Grade, phone number, email address and postal adress.

You are generally not required to provide us with any data. However, if you choose not to provide us with data, it could mean that we are unable to register you in the contest ReImagine Challenge (the Challenge).

3) How do we use your personal information and what is the legal basis of the processing?

We use your personal data for the following purposes:

Processing, evaluation of applications, announcing of the results, arranging for the accommodation / travels of the winners and delivering prizes.

We may also use your personal information for other purposes that are compatible with the original purpose for which was initially collected, such as announcing the results on social media.

The processing of personal data is necessary for purposes of the legitimate interests pursued by Swiss Re.

4) How long do we keep your personal information?

We keep your personal data only for as long as is necessary for the purposes of the processing or as required by law. Your personal data will be securely deleted from our records within a period of 3 months, after the Challenge ends.

5) Do we share your personal information?

We do not sell your personal data to third parties:

We may disclose your personal data to third parties in relation to our services, our legal obligations or otherwise to pursue our legitimate interests and the other purposes set forth in this Privacy Notice. These recipients are contractually required to comply with applicable data protection laws as well as any applicable confidentiality requirements.

In order to provide our services and fulfill our contractual or legal obligations, we may work with data processors such as suppliers, IT and other service providers who process personal data on our behalf. These are contractually obligated to process the data only for the purposes of providing their service to us. Personal data will only be disclosed to third parties for their own purposes after appropriate notification and based on your consent, if required by law.

6) Cross-border transfer of personal information?

Your personal data can be processed abroad, in countries where Swiss Re has offices.

If we transfer your personal data to countries that are not deemed to provide an adequate level of data protection by the competent authority in your jurisdiction we will ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses, which can be accessed here: https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/dec_impl/2021/914/oj.

In exceptional cases we may transfer personal data to a country with an inadequate level of data protection if you haven´t given your consent, if this is necessary for the performance of the underlying contract with your or in case of legal proceedings abroad or in case of overriding public interests.

You have the right to obtain a copy of the safeguards we have put in place for cross-border transfers of your personal information.

7) Use of cookies or similar technologies?

8) What are your rights?

You have the following rights in relation to your personal data, depending on the applicable data protection law:

  • Access: You have the right to request information form us as to whether and what personal data we hold
  • Rectification: If any of your details are incorrect, inaccurate or incomplete you can ask us to correct the data
  • Object: You have the right to object to the processing of your data in some circumstances, in particular for direct marketing purposes, for profiling carried out for direct marketing purposes and for other legitimate interests in processing. For other processing done under legitimate interests we will after your objection re-assess the balance between our interests and yours, considering your particular circumstances.  If we have a compelling reason, we may still continue to use your information.
  • Withdraw of consent: You have the right to withdraw consent at any time, provided that our processing is based on your consent.
  • Data portability: In some circumstances you can ask us to send an electronic copy of the Personal Data you have provided to us, either to you or to another organization.
  • Restrict processing: If you are uncertain about the accuracy or our use of your information, you can ask us to stop using your information until your query is resolved.  We will inform you of the outcome before we take any further action in relation to this information.
  • Erasure: You can ask us to delete your Personal Data if deleting your data is not in conflict with our legal and regulatory obligations.  If we are using consent to process your information and you withdraw it, you can ask us to erase your information. 

If you do not agree with the way we handle your rights or with our data protection practices, please let us or our Data Protection Officers know. If you are located in the EEA, the United Kingdom or in Switzerland, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent data protection supervisory authority in your country:
