1. About this Cookie Notice

This Cookie Notice explains how Swiss Re (also «we», «us») uses cookies and similar technologies. For information on how Swiss Re processes your personal data please see our Privacy Notice.

2. How do we use Cookies or similar tools?

We use different technologies to provide and optimize our online services, as well as to allow us and third parties engaged by us to recognize you during your use of our website, and possibly to track you across several visits.

We do not intend to determine your identity, even if that is possible where we or third parties can identify you by combination with your registration data. However, even without registration data, the technologies we use are designed in such a way that you are recognized as an individual visitor each time you access the website, for example by our server (or third-party servers) that assign a specific identification number to you or your browser (so-called «cookie»).

3. What are Cookies?

Cookies are individual codes (for example a serial number) that our server or a server of our service providers or advertising partners transmits to your system when you connect to our website, and that your system (browser, cell phone) accepts and stores until the set expiration time. Your system transmits these codes to our server or third-party server. In this way, you are recognized even if your identity is unknown.

4. What types of cookies do we use?

We use both session cookies, which expire when you close your browser, and persistent cookies, which remain on your device until they expire, or you delete them. We distinguish the following categories of «cookies» (including other technologies):

  • Necessary cookies: These cookies are strictly necessary for the functioning of the website or service. They are usually set to manage actions made by you. For example, they ensure that you can move between pages without losing information that was entered in a form. They also ensure that you stay logged in. We can also use these cookies to set up essential functionalities to guarantee the security and efficiency of the service requested, such as authentication and load balancer request. These cookies exist temporarily only («session cookies»). If you block them, the website may not work properly.
  • Performance cookies: In order to optimize our website and related offers and to better adapt them to the needs of the users, we use cookies to record and analyze the use of our website, potentially beyond one session. We use third-party analytics services for this purpose. Before we use such cookies, we ask for your consent. You can withdraw consent at any time through the cookie settings. Performance cookies also have an expiration date of up to 24 months. Details can be found on the websites of the third-party providers.
  • Marketing Cookies: We and our advertising partners have an interest in targeting advertising as precisely as possible, i.e., only showing it to those we wish to address. We have listed our advertising partners below. For this purpose, we, and our advertising partners – if you consent – use cookies that can record the content that has been accessed or the contracts that have been concluded. This allows us and our advertising partners to display advertisements that we think will interest you on our website, but also on other websites that display advertisements from us or our advertising partners. These cookies have an expiration period of a few days to 12 months, depending on the circumstances. If you consent to the use of these cookies, you will be shown related advertisements. If you do not consent to them, you will not see less advertisements, but simply any other advertisement.

5. How can you control cookies?

You can change your cookie settings at any time by clicking the "cookie settings" link in the bottom of the website.

You can also control or deleted cookies in your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to prevent that any cookies are placed. You can also use the opt-out functions of the providers of the tools that we use.

In addition you may follow the instructions provided by YourOnlineChoices (EU), the Network Advertising Initiative (US) and the Digital Advertising Alliance (US), DAAC (Canada), DDAI (Japan) or other similar services to select your tracking preference for advertising tools.

6. What third party cookies do we use?

We utilize cookies on certain pages of our Swiss Re Site to communicate with third party data suppliers in order to extrapolate your digital behavior. This helps us to understand and target more relevant advertising in the future. The information we receive is all aggregate and anonymous, but will include statistics such as demographics, online behavior, product interests and lifestyle. Targeting and tracking cookies are provided via trusted third party suppliers. Should you require more information regarding our suppliers and how these cookies operate please contact us.

7. Use of social networks

Our website contains social media functions and social plug-ins in the form of small icons. We currently have the following social networks embedded as icons on our website: LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram.

All social plugins are embedded using a 2-click process. This means that the plugins are deactivated by default so that no data is transmitted to the external social network when you visit our website. The external social network is only contacted when you actively click a social media icon. If you are logged in with your social media account, your visit to our website can be linked to your account.

When you interact with a social plugin, you leave our website and our area of influence. We do not store which external networks you activate. Your interaction with as social network is subject to the polices of the respective social network. The scope and purpose of data collection when using the social network, as well as your rights in this regard and options for protecting your privacy, can be found in the privacy notices of the respective social network.
