Description

However varied its technical form may be, a common theme underlies all of Ugo Rondinone's work, namely, the state of being torn between addiction and satisfaction, between excess and boredom. The concentric circles of colour hovering around an empty centre are reminiscent of the targets painted by Jasper Johns and Kenneth Noland. They develop an effect similar to a vortex, like floodgates into a different, cryptic reality.
