Swiss Re launches 2023 Diversity, Equity & Inclusion report

Leading with Inclusion: our 2023 Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) report, provides a succinct overview of our recent achievements and future ambitions.

Swiss Re is a community of over 14 000 people of 122 nationalities. Together, we’re much more than the sum of our parts, pooling our diverse knowledge, skills, backgrounds and experiences to make the world more resilient more creatively and effectively than any of us could on our own. To tap the potential of that diversity more fully and to better reflect the diversity of the clients and societies we serve, in June 2022 we launched a new Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) strategy that puts inclusion at the heart of everything we do.

Since then, we’ve put solid foundations in place and built on these achievements. Unlocking the value of our diversity means, among other things, having honest conversations with one another and building a culture that empowers every one of us to deliver innovative, sustainable business success. It also means holding ourselves to our DEI commitments.

In this spirit of openness and accountability, we’re pleased to share Swiss Re’s first DEI report, “Leading with Inclusion”, which presents our current DEI strategy, goals and themes and provides a granular view of our recent progress. Even if you’re familiar with our DEI efforts, the report is worth reading for its clear overview of what we’ve achieved, what we need to improve and where we’re headed next.

Key DEI achievements featured in this report:

Leading inclusively. So far, 90% of all senior leaders at Swiss Re have completed the first phase of our Inclusion Experience Journey, a programme designed to equip them with the frameworks, insights, and behaviours needed to lead their teams inclusively.

Women in leadership. From 2018 to 2023, the percentage of women in executive/senior management roles at Swiss Re has increased from 24.5% to 31%.

Equal pay for equal work. At Swiss Re globally, the average adjusted pay gap between men and women dropped to 1.4% in 2023.

Equality indexes. For the fifth year in a row, Swiss Re has been included in the Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (GEI). We’ve also been awarded silver status in Stonewall’s Global Workplace Equality Index and placed among Top Global Employers for 2022 for our efforts toward and commitment to creating inclusive environments for LGBTI+ employees.

Parental leave. By the end of 2023, we will have launched the new minimum standard for parental leave globally across Swiss Re.

An organisation is only as inclusive as the people in it feel included. We’re proud and encouraged by the results of our 2022 Employee Engagement Survey, in which 88% of Swiss Re employees worldwide reported that their line manager models inclusive behaviour and 84% that they can be their authentic selves at work.

Our inclusion-first approach is our guiding light. It will shape our priorities between now and 2025, encompassing all other DEI topics. As we move forward, we’ll expand on the diversity themes in this DEI report – gender, generations, race & ethnicity, LGBTI+ and mental health – and explore ways to become more inclusive with respect to other kinds of diversity.
