The following lists Swiss Re’s main sustainability-related memberships in global organisations, partnerships and initiatives.

UN Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI)

Insurance Development Forum (IDF)

The IDF is an action-oriented public-private partnership led by the insurance industry and supported by international organisations. It aims to optimise and extend the use of insurance and its related risk management capabilities to build greater resilience and protection for people, communities, businesses and public institutions vulnerable to disasters and their associated economic shocks. Swiss Re is a member of the IDF Steering Committee, the Operating Committee and various working groups.

UN Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI)

Net-Zero Asset Owner Alliance (NZAOA)

The NZAOA is a signatory-led group of institutional investors committed to individually transitioning their own investment portfolios to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Swiss Re committed itself to setting its first climate targets for investments in 2020, to be revised every five years. As a co-founder of the NZAOA, Swiss Re contributed to the development of all the existing NZAOA Target-Setting Protocols.

Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF)

PCAF is a global partnership of financial institutions that work together to develop and implement a harmonised approach to assess and disclose the GHG emissions associated with their loans and investments, (re)insurance underwriting, and other financial products and services through GHG accounting. It provides financial institutions with the starting point required to set science-based targets and align their portfolio with the Paris Climate Agreement. Since 2023, Swiss Re has published the carbon footprint of selected single-risk underwriting portfolios according to the PCAF Standard.

Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD)

The aim of TNFD is to develop and deliver a risk management and disclosure framework for organisations to report and act on evolving nature-related risks. A total of 40 Taskforce members, including Swiss Re, were selected for their subject-matter expertise. Since the launch of the Taskforce in 2021, Swiss Re has contributed through several forums, including plenary meetings and various working groups on the financial industry, data and scenarios.

UN Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI)

The PRI is a global organisation, supported by the United Nations, that promotes responsible investment to enhance long-term value creation. It works to support its international network of investor signatories through promoting the incorporation of sustainability and governance-related factors into investment strategies. The PRI’s assessment of Swiss Re’s responsible investment activities, for the reporting year 2024, is available on the PRI’s Data Portal.

UNEP FI Principles for Sustainable Insurance (PSI)

The PSI serve as a global framework for the insurance industry to address environmental, social and governance risks and opportunities. Swiss Re is a signatory of the PSI and a member of the UN Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI), a partnership between UNEP and the global financial sector to mobilise private sector finance for sustainable development. Swiss Re also provides one of PSI’s Board members. Swiss Re’s PSI disclosure of progress is available on the Swiss Re website.

United Nations Global Compact

The UN Global Compact helps companies do business responsibly by aligning their strategies and operations with its Ten Principles on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption. It also helps them take strategic actions to advance broader societal goals, such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Swiss Re’s Communication on Progress, including the CEO Statement of Continued Support, is published on the UN Global Compact reporting platform.

WEF Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders

The WEF Alliance is a CEO-led community of over 130 members. The alliance fosters CEO-to-CEO exchanges to promote knowledge sharing and best practices, with a particular focus on up- and downstream Scope 3 decarbonisation to help accelerating cross-industry and value chain collaboration. Swiss Re’s Group CEO participates as a regular CEO member.

World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD)

The WBCSD is the premier global, CEO-led community of over 250 leading businesses working collectively to accelerate the system transformations needed for a 
net-zero, nature-positive and more equitable future. In 2025, Swiss Re’s Group CEO became a member of the WBCSD executive committee for a two-year term.

Members of Energie-Modell Zürich have a common goal of increasing energy efficiency by a total of 14% and decreasing CO2 emissions by a total of 20% by 2030, relative to the base year 2020.

The Swiss Climate Foundation is a voluntary initiative by business for business. The Foundation’s mission is to promote climate innovation and strengthen Switzerland and Liechtenstein as competitive business locations.
