Swiss Re and Wysa expand access to mental wellbeing resources through insurance

In 2023, Swiss Re and Wysa launched Wysa Assure, an AI-based mental health support app. This solution is now available to tens of thousands insurance policyholders on three continents, following a strong growth trajectory in the last two years. The app combines Swiss Re's risk expertise and proprietary risk scoring system with Wysa's AI-powered mental health support.

Swiss Re and Wysa's collaboration started with Australian life insurer Ascenda, who recently won the Health & Wellness award for Wysa Assure in both the Group and Individual Life categories at the Financial Standard Industry Service Award – Life Insurance 2025. Other successful partnerships Swiss Re and Wysa are proud of include MassMutual in the USA, Eagle Insurance in Mauritius, and Momentum in South Africa.

In each case, insurers are providing the app as a value-add service to their policyholders to help them seek support early and proactively manage their mental wellbeing. The goal of this approach is to help avoid symptom deterioration for customers and potentially enables claims savings for insurers. Central to Wysa's design is an AI chatbot built on cognitive behavioural therapy principles, enabling policyholders access to on-demand support and guiding them through clinically validated mental health resources curated to their needs. The app prioritises user anonymity to address data protection concerns, while seamlessly integrating self-management modules and insurers' support networks.

Swiss Re's most recent partnership with Momentum in South Africa provides a great example of the mutual benefits of this solution. Momentum offers Wysa to all policyholders via their Multiply Rewards Programme. With 1 in 3 South Africans having experienced a common mental disorder in their lifetime1, Momentum wants to create awareness, provide the tools to help consumers measure their stress indicators, and provide ‘bite size’ steps to assist in prevention and recovery. Offering Wysa to their policyholders via this rewards programme is also a powerful way to help destigmatise mental health conditions in this market.

Complete health calls for more than physical care - it’s also dependent on sleep, human connection, and mental wellbeing. Our partnership with Wysa enables our members to manage their mental health in a new way with effective and accessible mental health resources, ensuring holistic care.

Guided by recent Swiss Re Institute research, which found a segment of consumers who would welcome innovative protection from insurers for their mental health and wellbeing2, Swiss Re and Wysa are helping to bridge this gap with an affordable, scalable digital solution available in multiple languages. By combining risk expertise and AI-powered tools, the Wysa Assure app supports insurers to deliver, accessible and stigma-free care to policyholders.
