As VP, Life & Health Sustainability Lead, Shelly Habecker currently focuses on helping Swiss Re reinsurance partners grow sales with social impact by making life and health insurance more inclusive for underserved communities. Shelly joined Swiss Re in 2016 and has worked in several innovation roles, using her background as an anthropologist to conduct market research to better understand customer needs for business case development. She also supports and leads cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions that meet customer needs and enable business growth.
Shelly's background is unusual in the insurance industry. She has a PhD from Oxford University with experience teaching anthropology at George Washington University and Purdue University in Fort Wayne, IN where she now lives. She has also worked for the US Office of Refugee Resettlement and the UNHCR and served as a US Peace Corps volunteer, which allowed her to live and travel in dozens of African countries. In all contexts, Shelly has a passion for understanding people, their stories, cultures, and experiences; and she is on a mission to inspire, motivate, and collaborate with allies to help build better financial safety nets for all.
