Dr. Gerry Lemcke is Head of Product Management at Swiss Re, Public Sector Solutions (PSS). PSS focusses to provide insurance solutions to governments, public sector entities, development organizations and NGOs (altogether "Public Sector").
His work aims to strengthen the public client's financial viability and economic resilience. In this global function Dr. Lemcke oversees consultancy, specialized insurance structuring and pricing as well as business and product development, tailored to the specific needs of public entities. Products are brought to market via insurance and reinsurance solutions or capital market placements.
Between 2012 and 2016 he hold the position of a Key Transaction Manager, responsible for structuring and placement of large capital market transactions purchased on behalf of Swiss Re Group. Previous roles, since 1998, include Head of Catastrophe Perils Americas, Head of Reinsurance Cycle Analysis and Head of Product Strategy.
His background combines risk modelling, (re)insurance underwriting and risk management expertise with broad experience to transact risk transfer solutions with insurance as well as with capital market counterparties.
Early in his career he was central to the transitioning of Swiss Re's natural catastrophe risk assessment programs towards its modern, fully probabilistic setup and was a founding member of the company's prospective approach of financial business steering and planning.
He worked as the company's climate change spokesperson for the Americas and served as elected member to the Private Sector Advisory Group of the Green Climate Fund (UNFCCC).
Mr. Lemcke received his Master in Geology from the University of Göttingen (Germany) in 1993, and his PhD in Environmental Physics from the ETH (Switzerland) in 1996. He is a fellow of the American Meteorological Society.
