Ali Shahkarami Head RDS Insurance Risk Data Solutions

Ali is Head of RDS Insurance & Public Sector within Risk Data Solutions where he is responsible for leading the sales and customer success teams alongside the consulting function Risk Consulting Analytics (RCA), steering the strategic growth of Swiss Re’s risk and data insights offerings. His role includes ensuring the successful adoption and long-term value creation of these solutions for insurers and public sector clients globally.
 
Ali joined Swiss Re in 2023 as Global Head of P&C Solutions, where he led a global team of insurance and data specialists focused on designing and delivering property, casualty, and specialty solutions for clients. In this role, he was responsible for advancing Swiss Re’s analytical capabilities, driving key client engagements, and partnering closely with insurers to strengthen technical pricing, portfolio steering, and underwriting performance.
 
Prior to joining Swiss Re, Ali worked at Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (current Allianz Commercial), where he held several senior leadership roles in Munich, including serving as Chief Data Officer. During his tenure at Allianz, his responsibilities spanned catastrophe risk modelling, research, portfolio analytics, and the development of technology solutions supporting underwriting and risk workflows, and developing Analytics and ML/AI solutions. Earlier in his career, Ali was a Lead Catastrophe Risk Modeler at RMS, based in California and specializing in natural catastrophe modelling.
 
Ali is a civil engineer by training and holds a Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from The University of British Columbia, Canada. Before transitioning into the insurance and risk industry, he spent several years working in structural engineering and materials science fields, with applications in the aerospace sector.
