Thomas Wehrle undertook his apprenticeship as a model creation before studying wood engineering in Rosenheim, Germany. As a timber construction engineer, he was employed by Holzbau Amann in Bannholz, Germany, where he was responsible for various projects, including the roof of the Expo exhibition in Hannover and the Chesa Futura in St. Moritz. He moved to ERNE AG in Laufenburg, Switzerland in 2004, beginning a career of 15 years as production leader, and later as head of the Construction and Engineering department. In 2010 he started a master's degree in Business Administration and Engineering. Since 2013 he has been the Chief Technical Officer and Head of Special Construction. From 2016 to 2017 he was the researcher in residence at the dfab of the NCCR for Digital Fabrication (Gramazio Kohler Research) at the ETH Zurich, where he supervised the development of the dfab house in the NEST building at the EMPA in Dübendorf. Thomas Wehrle has significantly contributed to the development of the Aargau-based research hub, where services for building solutions and construction with robotics are concentrated.
