After his PhD Thesis in 1986 at the Geological Institute, Swiss Federal Institut of Technology, ETH Zürich, Marco Baumann worked for an engineering company as a Geotechnical and Scientific Consultant and Projectmanager and as a Geologist, Hy­dro­geologist, Projectmanager and Senior Consultat for a geology company.

Marco Baumann joined the Office for the Environment OEN, Canton TG, in August 1994 as head of section Water Resources with the topics of integral water manage­ment, hydrological data, water protection, water use and hydropower. As from January 1999 he additionally assumed the responsibility for natural hazards, flood protection, river engineering and as expert in the competence center for use of geo­thermal energy.

As of the 31^st of march 2020 Marco Baumann has retired from the Office for the Environment OEN, Kanton Thurgau, but will remain active as a freelance consultant in the above mentioned areas of expertise.

1986年在苏黎世联邦理工学院地质研究所完成博士论文后，Marco Baumann在一家工程公司担任地质工程和科学顾问及项目经理，还在一家公司作为地质学家、水文地质学家、项目经理和高级顾问工作。

1994年8月Marco Baumann任图尔州州环境部水资源厅厅长，负责综合水管理、水文数据、水体保护、水利用和水力发电等工作。从1999年1月起，他还负责自然灾害、防洪、河流工程，并担任地热能源利用能力中心的专家。

2020年3月31日，Marco Baumann从图尔高州环境部（OEN）退休，但仍作为自由职业者在上述专业领域积极工作。
