Luigi Calabretta Team Lead In-Force Management Italy COO P&C Reinsurance

Luigi Calabretta is Senior Team Lead in P&C Re Operations In-force Management, overseeing run-off portfolios for clients in Italy, Iberia, the Mediterranean and South Africa, as well as financially troubled companies across EMEA. He is also CEO Swiss Re Europe, Italian Branch.

Luigi began his career in reinsurance in 1990 at Unione Italiana di Riassicurazione (UIR) as property underwriter. He was appointed senior manager in 1996, assuming responsibility for the finance department. Following Swiss Re's acquisition of the UIR Group in 1997, he joined the Alternative Risk Transfer team within Product Management.

Over the years, Luigi held a range of senior roles across underwriting, finance and operations, building deep expertise in the P&C reinsurance business. In 2005, he joined the Claims & Liability Management department, where he managed internal and external run-off portfolios and led multiple liability management initiatives.

Luigi holds a degree in Economics and Business Administration from LUISS University of Rome.
