Barend is a Sustainability Partner in the Strategy and Transactions team in the Netherlands and the EY Global Long Term Value Methodology Leader. He is focused on advising clients in the Europe West Region on sustainability and ESG-oriented strategies that seek to create both corporate and societal value.
Barend has over 25 years of experience in advising businesses on sustainability and ESG. In addition to his client work, he is a member of the EY teams working with the World Economic Forum International Business Council, who agreed on a common set of 21 core and 34 expanded metrics that help organisations to report on sustainable value creation.
Previously, he worked with the Coalition for Inclusive Capitalism on the Embankment Project for Inclusive Capitalism, which brought together nine companies and 22 investors representing USD 30 trillion assets under management (www.epic-value.com). Barend is a global leader in impact measurement. He has supported a range of organisations to measure and quantify their impact on society, assess the link and correlation to financial value and apply the insights to strategy development, decision-making, fact-based stakeholder dialogues and disclosures.
Barend has (co-)authored several long-term value and sustainability publications and was a part-time visiting fellow at the Yale School of Management from 2016 to 2017. He holds a degree in industrial engineering and innovation sciences from the Eindhoven University of Technology.
