In 2007 Swiss Re became an early signatory of the United Nations'-supported Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), an investor initiative closely linked to the UN through its partnership with the UNEP Finance Initiative and the UN Global Compact. In 2019 the PRI identified Swiss Re as part of the newly created PRI Leaders' Group. The PRI Leaders' Group 2019 showcases signatories that demonstrate both a breadth of responsible investment excellence, as well as distinct and profound expertise in this year’s leader theme: asset owners' selection, appointment and monitoring of external managers in listed equity and/or private equity. This group of leading signatories is roughly equivalent to 10% of all asset owner signatories.
The PRI were founded at the New York Stock Exchange in April 2006. The PRI's mission lies in enabling a sustainable global financial system, which they see as a necessity for long-term value creation. They do that by encouraging investors to use responsible investments to enhance returns and better manage risks, this being an approach which closely corresponds to Swiss Re's Responsible Investment philosophy. Over the years, PRI has become the leading global investors’ platform for learning, engagement and sharing of best practices. Since 2012 the organization assesses the development of its 1800 signatories.
