About the Role

As Senior Underwriter Surety based in Madrid, you will be an integral part of our growing European surety team, representing Swiss Re Surety in the local market. You will work closely with the Head Surety Europe to set the local market strategy and tactical guidance, lead the distribution with key clients and brokers, and execute business in line with our strategic ambitions and defined portfolio strategy. As Senior Underwriter on the ground, you will be part of the regional Surety leadership team as well as the first point of contact to the Head Iberia.

Key responsibilities:

•  Delivering towards our business growth ambition for Surety Iberia by defining and executing on priorities of key ongoing and future business initiatives
•  Underwriting for new and existing clients in a senior portfolio in accordance with internal guidelines while maintaining highest standards of client satisfaction
•  Independently acquire and handle client relationships, originate and process business opportunities with particular focus on client's needs and quality of service
•  Analyse new business opportunities by accurately assessing credit and transactional risks, legal due diligence, following Swiss Re's processes and guidelines
•  Develop account strategies to adapt position on existing clients to expand market footprint and steer own client portfolio
•  Regularly meet and interact with key clients and brokers gather relevant information on market trends and opportunities and represent Swiss Re at market conferences and associations.
•  Mentoring and advising younger professionals as the need arises

About You

•  Significant relevant experience in surety, commercial banking and/or credit-risk related financial services with visible market knowledge and reputation
•  Experience in dealing with multinational corporations and providing credit, guarantee & surety solutions to large and mid-sized corporate customers
•  End-to-end understanding and thinking across the Surety value chain
•  Excellent understanding of financial markets including debt financing, capital market instruments, and industry knowledge
•  Mature and confident personality with strong communication and negotiation skills
•  Entrepreneurial mentality, with strong focus on meeting objectives and achieving long-term goals
•  Curiosity, agility and ability to develop and present tailored solutions
•  A university degree or equivalent qualification in finance, economics, law or a related discipline 
•  Spanish native speaker with proficiency in English (written and verbal) is essential, additional language skills are a plus. 
•  Willingness to travel throughout Europe

For Spain, the base salary range for this position is between EUR 72,000 and EUR 120,000 (for a full-time role). The specific salary offered considers:

the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role,
the applicant's own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience.
In situations where you do not meet all the requirements or you significantly exceed these, the offered salary may be below or above the advertised range.

In addition to your base salary, you may be eligible for additional rewards and benefits including an attractive performance-based annual bonus.
