Department Operations Officer (Hybrid)
Location: Bratislava, SK
Are you an organised, driven professional looking to make a real impact by supporting a department's operations and helping a leadership team achieve its goals? If you're excited by the opportunity to contribute to the success of a global reinsurance leader, then we want to hear from you!
About the Role
The Department Operations Officer (DOO) is an important and rewarding role within our organisation, supporting the smooth and efficient operation of departmental processes and functions. You will work closely with the department head and leadership team, assisting in the coordination of strategic priorities, day-to-day operations, budget tracking, and ensuring alignment with organisational goals, governance, and standards.
You will serve as a key point of contact between the department and internal groups such as HR, Operational Risk, Compliance, and Finance — helping to facilitate effective communication, coordination, and execution across the board.
This role offers a fantastic opportunity to gain a broad overview of and insight into the workings of Group Underwriting (GUW) at Swiss Re, as well as other functions of a global reinsurance company. You will interact with colleagues across the organisation — from peers to senior management — building your network and growing your experience in a dynamic, international environment.
Depending on shifting priorities, you will be contributing your time and energy to the following:
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership team support: Coordinate meetings, set agendas, and manage follow-ups to ensure the leadership team operates efficiently
- Strategic planning & tracking: Assist the department head in the development, implementation, and tracking of department strategy and priorities, aligning with Group Underwriting and Swiss Re strategies
- Project & initiative contribution: Contribute to department or Group Underwriting-wide initiatives and projects, supporting seamless delivery and connecting the dots across teams
- Communications & presentations: Help develop clear, concise communications and targeted presentations for key stakeholder meetings, including Group Underwriting executive meetings and townhalls
- Travel & training coordination: Coordinate department travel and training plans to support team development and operational efficiency
- Financial & people planning: Support the financial and FTE (headcount) planning processes, ensuring accurate and timely input
- Cost tracking & insights: Assist in reviewing and tracking departmental costs, contributing actionable insights and flagging areas where cost can be influenced or optimised
- Stakeholder engagement: Engage with colleagues across GUW and at various stakeholder levels to support the delivery of a broad set of assignments, including monitoring strategic priorities and organising knowledge-sharing initiatives
About the Team
You will be a valued member of the Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) Office team — a dynamic and collaborative group that supports the Group CUO, the GUW Executive Team, and GUW in general to deliver against its ambitions. The CUO Office plays a central role in enabling the strategic and operational success of Group Underwriting, acting as the connective tissue between leadership priorities and day-to-day execution. The team thrives on collaboration, clear communication, and a shared commitment to excellence.
About You
You are an enthusiastic, organised, and detail-oriented professional who is eager to grow in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. You bring solid project coordination skills, a proactive mindset, and the ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders. You take ownership of your work, are keen to learn, and are always ready to support your team where needed.
We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:
- Project & process management experience: Minimum 2-3 years of relevant experience in project and/or process management, with a demonstrated ability to coordinate and deliver tasks effectively
- Financial & planning awareness: Some experience in cost tracking, budget monitoring, and/or KPI reporting, with an understanding of operational processes and controls
- Communication & presentation skills: Strong ability to develop clear, concise, and well-structured communications and presentations for a variety of audiences
These are additional nice to haves:
- Higher education: A graduate degree (Bachelor's, Master's, or MBA) is preferred
- Industry knowledge: Some exposure to or interest in the re/insurance industry and Underwriting processes is a strong advantage
- Organisational skills: Good prioritisation and planning skills to manage multiple concurrent activities effectively
- Attention to detail: A strong sense of ownership and dedication, with a careful and methodical approach to work
- Team player mindset: A collaborative approach, always willing to support colleagues and keep the broader organisational goals in mind
