Join P&C Reinsurance Engineering as an AI Engineering Lead and help shape the software systems, engineering practices, and technical direction behind our AI and agentic capabilities.
We are looking for an experienced engineering leader with strong software engineering fundamentals who enjoys building and operating production systems while mentoring others and driving technical excellence.
This is a hands-on leadership role focused on delivering business value through modern software engineering and practical AI adoption.
About the Role
As an AI Engineering Lead, you will lead the design, development, and operation of AI-enabled software systems supporting our reinsurance business. You will provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, and help establish engineering standards while remaining actively involved in architecture and delivery decisions.
You will work closely with business stakeholders, product teams, architects, and engineers to ensure solutions are scalable, reliable, and aligned with business objectives.
What You Will Do
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers, fostering a culture of quality, ownership, and continuous learning
- Provide technical leadership across AI-enabled software solutions and platforms
- Drive implementation decisions for scalable, production-grade systems
- Oversee the development of services, integrations, APIs, and workflows supporting AI and agentic applications
- Ensure solutions deliver measurable business value and can be operated effectively at scale
- Guide teams in applying AI technologies pragmatically and responsibly
- Establish engineering standards for testing, deployment, monitoring, quality assurance, and operational excellence
- Support teams in building evaluation frameworks and quality controls for AI-powered systems
- Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to prioritize and deliver impactful solutions
- Help grow engineering capabilities, knowledge-sharing, and best practices within the team

What We Are Looking For
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Extensive experience designing, building, and operating production-grade software systems
- Strong software engineering background using Python, TypeScript, Java, Kotlin, or similar technologies
- Deep understanding of software architecture, engineering best practices, testing strategies, and CI/CD
- Experience leading technical initiatives and mentoring engineers
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, cloud environments, and modern software platforms
- Ability to bridge business objectives and technical implementation
- Experience driving technical decision-making in complex environments
- Interest in applying AI and agentic technologies to business problems
Nice to Have
- Experience leading software engineering, platform engineering, AI engineering, or data engineering teams
- Experience building AI-enabled applications and agentic workflows
- Familiarity with LLM application patterns, RAG, tool calling, and evaluation frameworks
- Experience with cloud AI services such as Azure AI
- Knowledge of MLOps and model lifecycle practices
- Experience with Palantir Foundry / AIP
- Insurance, reinsurance, or financial services experience
For Slovakia the base salary range for this position is between EUR 3,200 and EUR 5,300 per month (for a full-time role). The specific salary offered considers:
- the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role,
- the applicant’s own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience.
In addition to your base salary, Swiss Re offers an attractive performance-based variable compensation component, designed to recognise your achievements. Further you will enjoy a variety of global and location specific benefits.
