The self-taught artist Martin Disler had begun to capture the physical and mental tension of the modern individual on canvas years before the so-called "Wild Ones" became a talking point. His expressive paintings and drawings, often in somber colours, possess a swirling energy indicative of his often impetuous approach. This artist, whose work comes across as being bathed in both a thirst for life and an anticipation of death, was only forty-seven years old when he died.
