Description

Thomas Struth is known for his large-format colour photographs of landscapes, the natural world, urban contexts, still life images, portraits, museums and other interiors. The work Acker bei Seuzach (Field near Seuzach) is one of a number of small landscapes he took in the early 1990s of tranquil gardens, woods and fields around Winterthur, Switzerland.

Though works like these Swiss landscapes might initially appear "astonishingly conventional", as Swedish art historian and curator Daniel Birnbaum writes in Art Forum, there is a structural continuity to Struth's projects that makes it clear that the same photographer is responsible for producing these colourful idyllic images.
