Description

Mountains are a recurring subject in Gerhard Richter's work. Detachment from the original merely serves to heighten the impact of these prints. They are based on paintings, which are in turn based on photographs taken in 1968 from the artist's airplane window on a flight to Milan. In the paintings, the heavily applied sections of paint chart out the contours of light and dark in the "original" photographs.
