One hundred and thirty square aluminium panels encircle 99 copper panels, each placed flat on the floor in the middle of the central atrium of our headquarters. The light coming in through the huge skylight casts ever-shifting hues on the panels, as if suggesting that ALomoCU is in charge of this space.

I was inspired to make the work which I thought appropriate to the space and conditions of the site.
Andre has often been called a conceptual artist, but it is a term that he dislikes and disregards. And despite the seemingly systematic repetitive nature of a work like this, Andre's work is highly emotive and often hints at his own biography. As he has said: "My work doesn't come from ideas − my work comes from desires." And these were shaped by his upbringing in Massachusetts, where he grew up around abandoned quarries and shipyards, and where his Swedish immigrant father (who came from a long line of blacksmiths) had worked as a draughtsman.

Inspired, not only by this industrial backdrop, his visual vocabulary would be influenced by the hours he spent, playing with the offcuts in his father's basement carpentry workshop.
