About the Role
This is a senior, hands-on role that blends strategic thinking with practical execution. You will independently lead complex, cross-business-unit initiatives, influence senior stakeholders, and translate governance strategy into real-world implementation, all while helping to simplify and modernize how underwriting governance works across a global organization.
As Underwriting Transformation & Governance Manager, you will work closely with Group Underwriting leadership, Business Units, Data & Technology, Risk Management, and Compliance to help shape and operationalize the future underwriting governance model across Swiss Re.
Key Responsibilities
Underwriting Governance Transformation
- Lead designated governance transformation workstreams across P&C Re, CorSo, and L&H Re, driving delivery, stakeholder alignment, and implementation
- Shape solution design for governance transformation, including changes to the underwriting governance framework and the development of new or enhanced underwriting standards
- Proactively identify and resolve governance implementation challenges and cross-business-unit dependencies before they become blockers
- Coordinate cross-functional stakeholders, ensuring workstreams progress with clear accountability, milestones, and delivery discipline
Underwriting Governance Stewardship
- Own designated areas of Group-level underwriting governance, ensuring they remain fit for purpose and future-ready
- Lead updates and improvements to underwriting standards, referral principles, and authority frameworks
- Champion consistent interpretation and application of underwriting governance across all business units
- Partner with Business Units, Risk Management, Compliance, and operational teams to support effective governance implementation and workflows
Underwriting Enablement
- Drive the implementation of underwriting governance requirements into underwriting data, tools, systems, workflows, and workbench capabilities across business units
- Lead adoption and simplification of governance-related tooling and workflows, always balancing best practice with practical business needs
- Facilitate cross-business-unit alignment and the sharing of best practices related to underwriting governance tooling and implementation
About the Team
You will join Group Underwriting, working closely with underwriting governance and transformation leadership across the organization.
The team plays a critical role in shaping underwriting governance modernization, AI-enabled underwriting capabilities, and enterprise underwriting standards across Swiss Re.
About You
You are a seasoned underwriting governance and transformation professional who knows how to get things done in complex, global environments. You bring a rare combination of deep underwriting expertise, sharp execution skills, and the ability to build trust and alignment across diverse stakeholder groups. You are pragmatic, delivery-focused, and energized by the challenge of turning governance strategy into practical, scalable solutions.
We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:
- 8+ years of re/insurance experience in underwriting, underwriting governance, contracts & wording, risk management, or similar areas
- Solid, hands-on understanding of underwriting standards, contract wording, referral rules, authority frameworks, and underwriting governance processes
- Proven solutioning and design skills, with the ability to shape practical, scalable options for complex governance, process, and implementation challenges
- Strong stakeholder management capabilities, with a track record of driving alignment across business units and group functions including Data & Technology, Risk Management, Legal, and Compliance
- Delivery-focused mindset, with demonstrated ability to manage implementation, dependencies, and execution in a fast-moving, cross-functional environment
These are additional nice to haves:
- Exposure across both P&C and L&H business lines
- Experience working with data, tools, systems, and workflows in an underwriting or governance context
- Experience working in a global, matrixed organization with multiple business units
- Strong communication and storytelling skills — the ability to translate complex governance topics into clear, compelling narratives for senior audiences
