Senior Underwriter P&C Re (Hybrid; m/f/x/d; 80-100%)

Regular Employment

Location: Munich, DE

About the Role

We are pleased to invite applications for a Senior Underwriter role to champion, develop and grow our Market Unit. This is an exciting opportunity covering a broad range of accountabilities, including holistic underwriting, portfolio and client management, with the challenge of balancing risk to build and maintain a profitable book of business.

We seek individuals to help “connect the dots” across our client base. You will support our Austria, Central and Eastern Europe and Nordics Team, providing insights into customer-related themes for the location. This encompasses primarily Core business and will partially include Innovation and Reinsurance as a capital management instrument. You will focus on selecting the right clients, developing opportunities in the portfolio and contributing to a portfolio that outperforms the market benchmark. Increasing our profits, group results and customer satisfaction will be a focus. An additional important aspect will be to leverage Swiss Re’s broader capabilities beyond reinsurance capacity across the client base, helping to protect and amplify our Core business through consistent activation in client conversations.

We seek an agile team member who can learn quickly, coach others and adapt at pace to support across the range of varied accountabilities and deliver our ambitious plans for the P&C Reinsurance business. A successful candidate will combine strong origination, client management and Underwriting Excellence skills to develop and foster client relations across executive and management levels.

About the Team

Come join a team of Munich-based underwriters who are highly driven, dedicated and focused on delivering excellent value to insurers across Austria, Central and Eastern Europe and the Nordics. We believe in teamwork, strong market ownership, long-term client partnerships, and technical expertise.

Responsibility for Underwriting

You will perform end-to-end underwriting analyses of Core business, including risk analysis, risk selection, costing, contract review, structuring and resource deployment within an effective timeframe. The emphasis is on costing accuracy and underwriting discipline, with analyses reflecting unbiased estimates of expected losses and associated steering values. You will be responsible for ensuring underwriting outcomes are within appropriate authorisation levels and in line with Swiss Re guidelines and best practices. You will also manage escalation cases as needed, support portfolio steering, identify opportunities to grow Core business in collaboration with relevant specialists, and enable the deployment of reporting and underwriting tools.

To stay ahead of the competition, you will anticipate and analyse future industry, economic, legal and market trends, including competitor products and market developments.

About You

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in relevant insurance/reinsurance underwriting, portfolio and/or client management.
  • Demonstrated market intelligence in Central and Eastern Europe non-life insurance and reinsurance markets, with readiness to broaden accountability for client interactions and inspire a cross-functional client team.
