Financial Reporting Associate

About the team
The SRAL Carrier Management team comprises approximately 28 finance professionals across the region and operates within the broader Finance function globally within the GFO&T division. The team collaborates closely with local, regional, and global stakeholders to deliver timely, accurate, and reliable financial reporting, meeting both regulatory and statutory requirements as well as internal analytical needs.
In addition, the team ensures robust governance and effective management of financial reporting risks, while supporting the implementation of strategic initiatives across the region. As a trusted finance business partner, SRAL Carrier Management team also provides business partnering support to enable informed decision-making and sustainable business development.
About the role
We are looking for a motivated Finance professional to support the financial and regulatory reporting activities for our Malaysian entity. The role will assist in the preparation of financial and regulatory reports, perform reconciliations and controls, and work closely with colleagues across Finance and other functions to ensure accurate and timely reporting. This role offers an excellent opportunity to build expertise in financial and regulatory reporting within a global reinsurance environment.
Key Responsibilities
Financial & Regulatory Reporting
- Support the preparation and submission of financial and regulatory reports for Malaysia entities.
- Assist in the preparation of statutory financial statements and regulatory returns in accordance with local requirements and internal policies.
- Perform financial closing reconciliations and investigate variances and exceptions.
- Ensure reporting deliverables are completed accurately and within established timelines.
Financial Close Activities
- Support quarter-end and year-end close activities, including but not limited to intercompany confirmations and settlements, e-invoicing/ePayment and other related regulatory reporting,
- Prepare journal entries, supporting schedules and working papers.
- Maintain appropriate documentation for reporting and audit purposes.
Controls & Compliance
- Follow established financial reporting controls and procedures.
- Support internal and external audit requests by preparing required documentation and analyses.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements and internal governance policies.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work closely with Finance colleagues, Risk, Tax, Actuarial and other business functions to obtain information required for reporting.
- Escalate issues or reporting exceptions promptly and support timely resolution.
- Build effective working relationships with local and regional stakeholders.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve reporting processes and operational efficiency.
- Participate in finance transformation and process improvement initiatives.
- Support the enhancement of reporting documentation and standard operating procedures.
About you
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
- Professional accounting qualification (or currently pursuing ACCA, CPA or equivalent) is an advantage.
- 2–5 years of relevant experience in financial reporting, regulatory reporting, audit or accounting.
- Experience within insurance, reinsurance and Takaful/Retakaful is essential.
- Knowledge of IFRS 9 and 17, and basic regulatory reporting concepts is desirable.
Skills & Competencies
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet reporting deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel; experience with SAP/PowerBI or other ERP systems is an advantage.
- Willingness to learn and develop technical expertise in financial and regulatory reporting.
