About the Role

The role holder markets and underwrites profitable Casualty business, in accordance with the local and divisional strategies and marketing plans. 

Main responsibilities:

  • Meets or exceeds financial objectives
  • Independently and proactively executes business development and marketing initiatives with brokers and corporate clients
  • Identifies and pursues target accounts and market segments to drive profitable growth
  • Grows the business in the target segments focusing on medium to large corporate accounts; SME experience as a foundation would also be considered relevant
  • Proactively manages renewal portfolio and increases share of wallet on existing business and cross sells solutions
  • Collaborates closely with Finpro, Property and Specialty colleagues to deliver integrated solutions and maximise business opportunities
  • Undertakes additional responsibilities and projects in support of the team and organisational objectives
  • Maintains a strong market presence
  • Accurately reports progress against business  plan in accordance with the Swiss Re Corporate Solutions' reporting framework and on an ad-hoc basis as needed

Accountabilities & Major Functions:

  • Underwrites and executes profitable Casualty business
  • Maintains a high level of technical expertise and leverages this knowledge to grow the portfolio profitably
  • Provides timely, professional and responsive service to brokers and clients
  • Ensures all underwriting is in line with underwriting authorities and corporate governance rules
  • Collaborates with teams in development and execution of business strategies
  • Good team player, while being self directed
  • Pro-actively implements own strategies and marketing initiatives aligned with regional plans
  • Develops and strengthens broker and client relationships to maximise business opportunities and long term partnerships
  • Ensures the integrity and accuracy of data in in the relevant information, pricing and analysis systems
  • Manages the timely and accurate preparation of documentation
  • Produces accurate figures for quarterly projections and other portfolio reporting functions
  • Manages expenses in line with agreed budgets and business expectations

About You

  • At least 5 years experience in underwriting Casualty lines
  • Strong understanding of market dynamics, competitors and distribution channels
  • Sound knowledge of other commercial insurance classes and / or of reinsurance products would be an asset
  • Proven ability to develop and implement underwriting solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver on growth targets
  • Strong broker and client relationship management abilities
  • Commercially minded with a strong business development orientation
  • Ability to develop and maintain profitable long-term client relationships
  • Strong negotiation and  decision-making skills
  • A good balance between underwriting, relationship management and business development capabilities
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across all organizational levels
  • Well organised with disciplined time management skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team
  • High level of digital proficiency
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Insurance, Reinsurance and/or relevant industry work experience
  • Relevant degree level qualifications or higher will be advantageous
  • Experience working in SEA, HK and/or China markets would be an asset.
