About the event

Today, sustainability is one of the most-discussed topics relating to our states' economic growth and environment. It's shaping businesses and increasing the ability of societies to withstand current risks such as climate change and the loss of biodiversity. In addition, we recognise that increasingly frequent natural disasters are impacting economies and the physical health of populations.

During the seminar, which is in cooperation with the Slovak Insurance Association, we would like to touch on several areas where we recognise major challenges and opportunities for the (re)insurance industry.

We will also focus on the cooperation between the private and public sectors that contributes to resilience on any level – global or local. We believe that open dialogue and cross-collaboration are key to developing and implementing tailor-made innovations in order to help create a more resilient world.

Mitigating climate risk

The effects of climate change and global warming are already evident and shaking up our risk landscape: warmer average temperatures, rising sea levels, melting ice caps, longer and more frequent heatwaves, erratic rainfall patterns and more weather extremes.

A most urgent question we need to ask is not only how to tackle climate change, but also how we can best adapt to a changing climate and avert the most damaging consequences – in short, how to mitigate climate risk.
