In 1926, silk manufacturer Carl Martin Leonhard Bodmer and his wife Anna Vogel had a residence built in Rueschlikon, a district of Zurich which is located above the lake where views of the Alps provide a spectacular backdrop. In 1995 the estate with the Villa Bodmer was sold to Swiss Re. That year, Swiss Re invited 12 Swiss architecture firms to participate in a competition to design a modern conference building to complement the original neo-Baroque Villa.

The jury awarded the first prize to a project by Zurich architecture Marcl Meili and Markus Peter. After a three-year construction period the Centre for Global Dialogue opening on 15 November 2000.

The Centre comprises thirteen flexible seminar and conferencing rooms for up to 220 participants, the latest audio-video and IT infrastructure for hybrid or online events and recording, healthy and balanced dining, flexible spaces for networking, inspirational architecture, design and art, panoramic lake and mountain views, fifty three hotel rooms, spa & leisure facilities, and a dedicated team of experienced professionals.
