Art at the Centre

Innovative architecture, design and art dot the Centre, inspiring a stimulating exchange between mind and matter.

As you walk around, you can discover a distinct selection of art pieces. Just to pick a few:

Sloping Progression

Nestled among the trees between the neo-Baroque villa and the Centre's main building, US artist Sol LeWitt built the concrete outdoor sculpture "Sloping Progression". At first glance, it may look like an incomplete construction piece. But the artist has used concrete blocks in his art since the 1980s, influenced by his interest in seriality. The blocks can easily be stacked on top of each other, possibly in endless repetitive loops, creating a stunning, prominent sculpture.

Concrete Landscapes

Also outside, you will find the sculptures "Concrete Landscapes" by the influential Swiss artist duo Peter Fischli and David Weiss. Exposed to wind and weather, the rectangles were commissioned for the Centre's 10th anniversary in 2010. They can be interpreted both as representations of a landscape as well as living organisms exposed to nature's constant changes.

Inside, by the wall near the main entrance, stands Ulrich Rückriem's "Untitled" mural made of Blue de Vire granite. Its size and rough shape represent the natural as well as the monumental.

Finally, in the villa you can explore how Günther Förg playfully intervenes in the building's historical architecture by adding pillars and other artefacts with the aim to reduce the opulence of the original structure and emphasize the factual.
