This is an immensely challenging time for all of us. The current pandemic has had a deep impact on society as a whole and unsurprisingly put an end to the 64th edition of that most venerable of industry gatherings – RVS Monte Carlo.
Indeed, the world may have been turned temporarily upside-down, but the risk landscape is changing for good. Swiss Re and the whole industry are rethinking old ways, adopting new forward-looking approaches and gearing up to rebuild resilience and stability in a changing world.
The changes driven by COVID-19 may have resulted in social distancing in the physical world but we want to stay close to you in the virtual world. That's why we're filling the vacuum left by the cancellation of the physical meeting, with a virtual experience for you. Here's a little taster of what's in store:
Instead of the coffee in the Swiss Re pavilion we've got virtual coffee breaks planned, where we'll discuss emotional agility with Susan David, an award-winning Harvard Medical School psychologist and in a second session I'll host Richard Edelman, CEO Edelman on the topic of trust and the role of leaders and organisations. I do hope you can join us.
In this new world there will be some familiar activities. The Swiss Re press conference will have its place in the virtual calendar on 8th September and it wouldn't be Monte Carlo without the launch of our Swiss Re Institute thought leadership in the form of a supply chain sigma on 10th September.
If you're interested in joining some, or all, of these events, they will be hosted on swissre.com between 8-16 September. This one stop shop already has more details on the activities I've outlined here and will be continually updated with the latest news from the virtual Monte Carlo.
It may take years or even decades for the significance of this crisis to be fully understood but it could be a global turning point. Please join the Swiss Re team and I at virtual Monte Carlo 2020 so that we can discuss how to transform tomorrow together.
