Sangui Wang is a professor and a doctoral tutor with the School of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Renmin University of China, Dean of the China Poverty Alleviation Institute of the Renmin University of China, member of the Expert Advisory Committee of the State Council Leading Group for Poverty Alleviation, and leader of the "Expert Group for National Poverty Counties to Exit Third Party Evaluation", Member of the Academic Committee of the China Research and Development Foundation.
His main research direction is on rural poverty and development financing. He has led two major national social science projects, namely the “Study on the Development Strategy for the Special Types of Poverty-Stricken Areas in China” and the “Research on Implementing Precise and Accurate Poverty Alleviation Policy and Application Mechanisms”. He was selected as a New Century Talent by the Ministry of Education of China
He has led successively more than 90 research projects, which were funded by the National Natural Science Foundation, the State Council Poverty Alleviation Office, some other government bodies in China, as well as the World Bank and other international bodies. He has published some ten academic books on poverty and has published more than 150 academic papers at home and abroad. He was awarded the First Prize of Science and Technology Progress Award by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the Fourth China Rural Development Research Award and the First “Yicheng Poverty Alleviation Research Achievement Award” of the State Council Poverty Alleviation Office. He has been recognized by the State Council Leading Group for Poverty Alleviation as a Model Individual in Poverty Alleviation and Development.
