Russell Higginbotham was appointed CEO Reinsurance Asia and Regional President Asia on 8 July 2019. Before being named to his current role, Russell was CEO Reinsurance and Regional EMEA, where he successfully spearheaded its regional transformation and client delivery model after his appointment in 2018. He became a member of the Group Executive Committee in September 2018.

He joined Swiss Re in 1994 and assumed several roles in Life & Health before eventually being named Head of New Business. In 2002, he moved to Tokyo as Life & Health Country Manager for Japan, and subsequently for South Korea.

Four years later, he was named Chief Executive Officer of Swiss Re for Australia & New Zealand and in 2010, moved back to the UK as CEO Reinsurance for UK and Ireland. In 2016, he was appointed Head of Life & Health Products for Reinsurance, where he was pivotal in moving the needle on the hugely successful and industry-leading Magnum automated underwriting solution.

Now based out of Singapore, Russell oversees more than 2,000 staff in 11 Asian cities.

He is a lifelong Manchester City fan, enjoys listening to Led Zeppelin and has a woodwork hobby. Russell also plays tennis and field hockey, where he has played for teams in Yokohama, Sydney and around London including the Blackheath Hockey Club, the oldest hockey club in the world.

A UK citizen, Russell is married with two daughters, both of whom were born during his previous stints in the region.
