Michael Ludlow was appointed as Head of Group Tax at Swiss Re in 2016 having joined the group in 2015. He is based in London and is part of the UK's senior leadership team. Externally, Michael was confirmed as Chair of the European Business Tax Forum in 2021, a pan-European group of the largest multi-national companies focused on ensuring fair and constructive debate around the subject of tax transparency.
Michael's leadership of tax is concerned with increasing their focus on strong risk management, with a particular interest in reputational tax risk management and strategy; tax transformation and operational efficiency to optimise in-house tax capacity.
Michael has significant tax experience from within professional practice and financial services in London, Kenya and Switzerland. He joined Swiss Re in November 2015 as Head of Global Tax Advisory following 8 years with Standard Chartered Bank leading their global tax planning and operations teams with a focus on Asian and African markets and tax regimes. Prior to that, Michael spent 3 years working in Nairobi, Kenya where he was seconded by PwC before joining a client as their in-house CFO setting up a multi-faceted business including a charitable trust, conservation and community support structure.
Michael holds an honours degree (hons) in Geography from Loughborough University and is a Certified Financial Planner and member of the UK's Chartered Institute of Taxation.
