Martin heads the Sustainability, Emerging & Political Risk Management team at Swiss Re Group level. The team integrates environmental, social and governance issues into Swiss Re's business practices and operations, acts as a catalyst for emerging risks and an analyst for political risks. The unit is responsible for coordinating the sustainability activities across the company, for scanning the horizon for future risks and developments, assessing their relevance for Swiss Re, and enabling forward-looking decision-making. It also manages or contributes to the dialogue with a wide range of Swiss Re’s stakeholders such as clients, investors, governments, NGOs and the public. Martin is a member of the FSB Task Force on Climate-related Disclosures (TCFD) and a board member of the UNEP Finance Initiative Principles for Sustainable Insurance (PSI).
Before Martin was Senior Risk Officer for Latin America based in Sao Paulo where he had broad responsibility to further enhance Risk Management in the region. From 2011 to 2014, he was a secondee and Swiss Re Delegate at the Institute of International Finance (IIF) in Washington DC building up the Institute's insurance industry initiatives, including a long-term investors group. In prior roles at Swiss Re he worked in Risk Management, Underwriting, Asset Management and Group Sustainability Management since 2002. Martin holds a MSc in environmental sciences with specialization in physics, climate and water systems from ETH Zurich. He has further education in scenario analysis from Oxford and risk communication from Harvard.
