Climate Week NYC 2012 and The Clinton Global Initiative, two thought provoking events, began on Monday 24 September in New York City. Swiss Re is proud to be a major sponsor and participant of both events.
Climate Week NYC 2012
Swiss Re is a founding sponsor of Climate Week NYC 2012. The event, now in its fourth year, brings together the world's leading businesses and governments for an open discussion on how society can tackle climate change and work towards better protecting ourselves from the severe weather-related impacts it brings.
Without adaptation to climate change, a tremendously high human and economic price will be paid by both the developed and developing world.
Clinton Global Initiative
Swiss Re has been a member of the Clinton Global Initiative since 2006. Through this forum, focused on actionable outcomes, we are currently partnering the development of two pioneering micro-insurance initiatives. Both offer solutions enabling swift payout in the event of natural disasters – but also provide the basic financial and risk management tools that can spur economic development. MiCRO provides insurance to small business entrepreneurs in Haiti, and the Rural Resilience initiative (R4) is directed to low income farmers in Africa.
Established in 2005 by President Bill Clinton, CGI convenes a community of global leaders to forge solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges. CGI Annual Meetings have brought together more than 150 heads of state, 20 Nobel Prize laureates, and hundreds of leading CEOs, heads of foundations and NGOs, major philanthropists, and members of the media.
As a risk manager with almost 150 years of experience, Swiss Re believes the insurance industry has a vital role to play in helping to make communities around the world more resilient to disasters, including those exacerbated by climate change. Find out more in the video below.
