Dr. Nan Li is Associate Professor and Assistant Dean at the Department of Construction Management, School of Civil Engineering, Tsinghua University. He is also Director of the Institute of Sustainable Urbanization at Tsinghua. Dr. Li’s research focuses on understanding human behaviors in the context of emergencies and disasters at both building and urban scales, using data-driven and informatics-oriented approaches. Dr. Li has published over 70 academic papers, among which 6 papers are within top 3% most cited papers in their respective Web of Science subject categories and another 3 papers won best conference paper awards. He has received Outstanding Reviewer Awards from 7 top journals by ASCE and Elsevier. He currently serves as associate editor of ASCE Journal of Computing in Civil Engineering and guest editor or editorial board member of several other journals, and is a board member of the International Association for Automation and Robotics in Construction (IAARC). He is also a licensed civil engineer (PE) registered in California. Dr. Li was selected into the renowned One Thousand Young Talents Plan in China in 2015, and recognized by Forbes China’s ‘30 Under 30’ list in 2017, and MIT Technology Review’s '35 Innovators Under 35 in China' list in 2018.
Dr. Li graduated from the University of Southern California in 2014, where he received his PhD degree in civil engineering and Master’s degrees in civil engineering and computer science. He received the PhD Achievement Award and the Best Dissertation Award upon graduation. Before that, he studied at Tsinghua University, where he received a Bachelor’s degree in construction management and a dual degree in economics in 2009.
