Economic cycles and natural catastrophes in 2019
European resilience in the face of slowing growth and catastrophe losses
European growth prospects going into 2019 are weakening, weighed down by Chinese economic slowdown, Brexit uncertainty, rising trade tensions and increases in public and private debt. How can businesses in Europe prepare themselves for a bumpy road ahead? Our Chief Economist, Jerome Haegeli, will consider both a global and Europe's economic outlook, and what it might mean for international corporations in Europe.
Further constraining Europe's growth prospects, 2017 and 2018 were both difficult years for natural catastrophe losses. In the light of our 2019 natural catastrophe sigma, which will be published on 10 April 2019, author Lucia Bevere will discuss cat loss trends and the potential effects of climate change.
