The panellists discussed how different forms of capital not only contribute to purposes beyond profit but, vice-versa, how the purpose that is pursued affects the different forms of capital. If all eyes are on profits in the short term, it is obvious that other aspects will be subordinated and in the longer run will suffer and negatively impact future value generation. The panel demonstrated in practical terms how purpose beyond profit is not only the new imperative but a reclaiming of a rationale that value is more than mere profits in financial terms. So how do we decide on what the purpose can be and should be? Are some forms of capital more important or productive than others? The panellists shared their insights on practical examples where maximising for purpose beyond profit has proven successful and shared their views on what is needed to appraise this as the new dominant strategy.
