Sharon J. Ooi, is the newly appointed Head, Australia & New Zealand, of Swiss Re Asia Pte Ltd, Australia Branch. She will assume this role on 1 September 2020. Sharon will manage the Life & Health (L&H) as well as the Property & Casualty (P&C) businesses of the branch. Based in Sydney, Sharon and her family will relocate when travel restrictions ease.

Sharon is, currently since 1 July 2017, the Head of Property & Casualty (P&C) Underwriting hub in Asia, Australia & New Zealand, in Swiss Re based in Singapore. She brings together all the expertise of Swiss Re's underwriting teams in the P&C reinsurance business, including the facultative business, to serve clients and partners in the region.

Prior to this, Sharon was the Head of Client Markets for the P&C reinsurance business in Southeast Asia, India, Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan (SID), a position that she has held since 2012. During her tenure, she has grown the business profitably and also worked on executing global strategic initiatives for Asia.

Sharon joined Swiss Re in 2006 as Head of the Property & Engineering Treaty business for Southeast Asia and India, following Swiss Re’s acquisition of GE Insurance Solutions, where she worked for five years as part of the regional leadership team. She was responsible for the strategy and technical underwriting of all non-life business booked in the Singapore office, as well as the technical underwriting of regional property treaty business for Asia Pacific.

Prior to GE Insurance Solutions, Sharon was with OCBC Bank where she was part of the Business Process Reengineering/Risk Management team. She was involved in analysis and design improvements of workflows in the bank's various departments. She then moved to General Cologne Re as Property & Casualty Underwriter for Southeast Asia.

Sharon is a key contact for regulators in the region and also serves on the Board of the Casino Regulatory Authority of Singapore.

Sharon holds an Honours Degree in Cell and Molecular Biology from the National University of Singapore. In her spare time, she enjoys fine wine, single malts and travelling extensively with her family.
