Swiss Re Corporate Solutions launches report by the Economist Intelligence Unit - "Managing the risk in renewable energy"

Renewable energy experts, clients, brokers and journalists participated in the launch of a new Economist Intelligence Unit report on 29 November in London. The report, sponsored by Swiss Re, examines the risks in financing, constructing and operating renewable energy projects as well as the risk management challenges that the renewable energy industry must confront.

Key findings were presented by Aviva Freudmann, Research Director at the Economist Intelligence Unit and editor of report. The research highlights that the renewable energy sector faces significant operational, regulatory and financial risks; the development of the sector is challenged by cuts in government financial support; and that the growing risks in renewable energy are driving future demand for insurance.

Juerg Trueb, Head of Environmental and Commodity Markets at Swiss Re Corporate Solutions addressed guests and committed to further expand the Corporate Solutions product offering so investors into wind and solar power projects are able to effectively de-risk their investments. "We already offer tailored construction and operational coverage for renewable energy projects and we are keen to work with clients to develop solutions specifically for this unique growth sector."

Head of Engineering & Construction at Swiss Re Corporate Solutions Guido Benz added, "It's our role as an insurer to inform stakeholders of the insurance solutions and products available to support renewable energy projects. Our work with the European Wind Turbine Committee and the Joint Code of Practice for Offshore Wind will assist our efforts."

Guest speakers included James Green, Renewable Energy Practice Leader at JLT Specialty Limited, and Johannes Sander, Managing Director of Sander+Partner GmbH, Switzerland. The launch event was an excellent opportunity for Corporate Solutions to discuss the research and highlight some of Corporate Solutions offerings to various stakeholders in the industry.
