Swiss Re Asia Health Symposia 2013

Swiss Re’s inaugural Asia Health Symposia is convening the conversation among key stakeholders and influencers on one of the biggest challenges facing us today: Funding Healthcare for Our Ageing Societies.

Changing demographics are having a profound impact on the social, economic and political landscape across Asia. The challenge of caring for an ageing population encompasses a multitude of considerations, including family support systems, quality of life, suitable housing and senior care infrastructure, government assistance, and healthcare provision and coverage levels.

On the spectrum of concerns, the ability to adequately fund longer lives is a fundamental and crucial issue, and this event will drive more discussion around who should pay for the healthcare of our ageing populations, and how it should be funded. Though it is not only about the needs of the older generations, it is also about those still in the workforce who - on top of supporting the region’s economy and older family members - must start planning for themselves and their children.

Speakers and participants will discuss the challenges, share insights and expertise and identify solutions, as we create an action-oriented environment for collaboration amongst key influencers, industry leaders, academics and regulatory commentators. The different implications of long-term healthcare funding will be presented from the following perspectives: Regulatory, Industry, Social and Economic (RISE).

Swiss Re recognises that it is time for a major industry ReThink and each event will hone in on the specific and unique challenges facing each individual market.

We are asking you to RISE to the challenge.

Critical issues to be addressed and presented on Funding Healthcare for Our Ageing Societies:

  • How will Asia cope with rapid shifts in demographics?
  • Who will fund the costs of healthcare in an era where the balance of retirees grows relative to the number of workers?
  • How can decision-makers in the private and public sectors work together to offer solutions to every generation?
  • How can we raise awareness amongst pre-retirees to understand the implications and plan for adequate funding of longer lives?
  • Shared learning and case studies and identifying opportunities for greater collaboration
