Swiss Re Health Symposia 2013 - Executive summary and update 2 - Seoul

Dear Clients,

Swiss Re believes that the challenge of how society is going to fund healthcare at a time when populations are ageing is one of the most important issues facing society, but also one of the most exciting opportunities for the insurance industry to demonstrate its value to society and peoples’ lives. Therefore, we have made a commitment to continue to campaign and lead the search for industry solutions to meet the healthcare funding needs of our ageing society.

We started this last year when we convened a series of inaugural Swiss Re Health Symposia in several markets across Asia on healthcare funding for ageing populations. In order to provide a platform for the insurance industry to engage and collaborate with other stakeholders for whom this is an important trend, we invited participation from representatives of government, business, academia and the medical community. The collaborative and informative discussions to come out of the Symposia helped identify potential cross-sector solutions and partnerships, and areas for further exploration. You can access an Executive Summary of these events on our website (Password: swissre).

In the coming months, in order to sustain momentum and continue the dialogue on this important issue, we will bring together a number of Task Force bodies in markets across Asia, as well as a regional Advisory Board. These bodies will be responsible for taking forward the solutions identified during the Symposia. We're excited to share progress updates with you from these groups.

Again, thank you for your continued support, and as always please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions. If you want to be a part of this community and ongoing dialogue on the issue of healthcare funding for ageing populations, and be kept informed of important updates by Swiss Re, please also email us at

Wishing you a happy, healthy and prosperous 2014, and Year of the Horse!

Best Wishes,
