Swiss Re Named to Fast Company's 2007 "Fast 50" list: annual list recognizes Swiss Re’s leadership in sustainability

26 Feb 2007

Swiss Re has been named by Fast Company magazine as one of the 2007 “Fast 50” — the “magazine’s notable annual list recognizing potential influence, business prospects, and ability to call attention to a range of urgent global issues”.

Swiss Re was recognized because of the company’s work in the area of sustainability. Swiss Re was cited for successfully launching the carbon markets’ first insurance product for managing Kyoto Protocol-related risk in carbon credit transactions in 2006.

“This year’s Fast 50 is about more than green business,” said Fast Company Deputy Editor Will Bourne. “It’s about businesses stepping up and taking their share of responsibility in a world that needs their help. Our 2007 list names companies and entrepreneurs tackling problems as varied as endemic disease, lack of access to capital for would-be entrepreneurs, and new sources of everything from energy to health care to food itself.”

Having identified climate change as an emerging risk nearly two decades ago, Swiss Re has created a comprehensive approach to sustainability and climate change. The company has committed to improving understanding of climate risk, developing products and services for mitigation and adaptation to climate change, raising awareness and reducing its own carbon footprint.

Fast 50 winners were judged by a panel of Fast Company editors and drawn from a variety of sources, including online submissions by readers. The complete Fast 50 list can be found in the March issue of Fast Company (on newsstands February 20 – March 20, 2007) or online at www.fastcompany.com.
