Swiss Re Greenhouse Gas conference: “Carbon and Renewables: Financing the Market”

The market for greenhouse gas emissions is taking off. As of January 2005, the European Union will introduce one of the most far-reaching environmental policies, with the launch of an emissions trading scheme. With the Russian Government signing the Kyoto Protocol, the agreement will soon be coming into effect.

This year’s fifth Green House Gas conference organised by Swiss Re focused on the role of the financial industry in this market for greenhouse gas emissions and renewable energy. Speakers and panel discussion members included specialists from various fields of the finance industry: insurance, banking, pension funds, regulatory bodies and international organisations such as the World Bank.

The conference was held at the Swiss Re Centre for Global Dialogue, Gheisstrasse 37, 8803 Rüschlikon and continued the dialogue begun at the previous Swiss Re Greenhouse Gas Conferences in 2001–2003. It was co-organised with the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA), The Climate Group and ABN AMRO Bank, and was run in conjunction with the IETA Annual Gathering on 3–4 November that also took place in Rüschlikon.
