Andreas Beerli

Executive Board Member
Andreas Beerli was appointed a Member of the Executive Board in November 1999 and is CEO of Swiss Re's Americas division since January 1, 2000, where he is responsible for the Group's property and casualty reinsurance operations in North, Central and Latin America. He is based in the company's North American headquarters in Armonk, New York.
Born in 1951, he trained as a lawyer and began his career at the Civil Court in Basle, Switzerland. From 1979 until 1984 he served with Swiss Re in a number of marketing functions. He gained private banking experience with Credit Suisse before joining the Baloise Insurance Group where he served in various functions related to its foreign operations. At Baloise, he played a key role in the integration of a number of its businesses and in 1990 was appointed CEO of Baloise Austria in Vienna. He last was responsible for the insurance group's US and Canadian businesses.
He rejoined Swiss Re as Chief of Staff of the Reinsurance division in 1993. Two years later he joined the Market department where he assumed responsibility for Austria, Italy and Switzerland and became head of the department in 1996. In 1997, following Swiss Re's acquisition of the Italian reinsurance company, Uniorias, he was appointed Managing Director of Swiss Re Italia S.p.A. in Rome where he was responsible for the successful integration of Uniorias into the Swiss Re Group. In 1998, he assumed the additional position as head of the Global Clients business unit for the Group's Europe division.
Andreas Beerli is a Member of the Board of the Reinsurance Association of America. He earned a Masters degree in law from the University of Basle in 1977, and was awarded a Ph.D. in law in 1983. He holds the rank of colonel on the General Staff of the Swiss armed forces.

Kurt E. Karl, Ph.D.

Head, Swiss Re Economic Research & Consulting, North America
As head of Swiss Re's Economic Research and Consulting, North America, Kurt E. Karl has responsibility for supervising the North American efforts with regard to Swiss Re's "sigma" papers - the award-winning research series on the insurance industry. In addition, he supports Swiss Re's strategic planning and internal consulting on new products. Finally, he provides insights and forecasts on the U.S. economy to Swiss Re for use in a variety of corporate decisions. He is an expert on the U.S. and global economies with extensive experience and knowledge of foreign markets and has lived and worked in Europe, Africa and Asia.
Prior to joining Swiss Re, Dr. Karl was chief international economist at WEFA, Inc., an economic forecasting firm located near Philadelphia. At WEFA, he was responsible for managing Global Services, the combined forecasting operations of the International, US and US Regional business units. Prior to becoming head of Global Services, Dr. Karl was the chief economist on the U.S. Forecasting Service.
Dr. Karl has a BA from the University of Oregon, a M.Sc. from the London School of Economics and a Ph.D. from Princeton University.

Patrick Mailloux

Patrick Mailloux is President and CEO of Swiss Re America Corporation (SRA) and a member of the Americas Division's Management Board. Based in Armonk, he oversees all of Swiss Re's US Direct reinsurance business - including marketing, underwriting and actuarial activities. He has been with Swiss Re since 1988.
Before heading up the Americas Division US Direct business, Mr. Mailloux was President and CEO of Swiss Re Canada from 1999 to 2001. From 1996 to 1999, he was Senior Vice President and CFO for the Canadian operation.
Mr. Mailloux's other executive roles at Swiss Re have included treaty marketing and underwriting, actuarial and consulting experience. He began his career in 1984 as an actuarial analyst with Wellington Insurance in Toronto and later served as an actuary and officer with Prudential Assurance in Montreal.
Mr. Mailloux earned a BS degree in actuarial studies from the Université Laval in Quebec and a MBA from McGill University in Montreal. He is also a fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries as well as a Chartered Financial Analyst.

W. Weldon Wilson

Weldon Wilson has been associated with Swiss Re, and previously Life Re, since 1991, as general counsel, secretary, and director of Swiss Re Life & Health America Inc. and its subsidiaries.
Before his appointment to the Executive Board, Mr. Wilson held the position as Executive Vice President and Head of the Business Engineering Services unit, where he was responsible for overseeing the firm's Admin Re programme as well as other non-traditional reinsurance solutions for clients in North America. Mr. Wilson formerly served as General Counsel for the Life & Health Business Group and has over 16 years of experience with mergers and acquisitions in the life insurance and reinsurance industry.
A graduate of the University of Alabama with a BA in Political Science, Mr. Wilson subsequently qualified at the Vanderbilt University School of Law in Nashville, Tennessee.
