Employees bring corporate citizenship to life at 2008 volunteer day

Seventy-five employees from Swiss Re’s North American headquarters office in Armonk, NY, helped fulfill the company’s mandate of good corporate citizenship at the annual employee volunteer day on May 20, 2008.

The group provided some much-needed help with landscaping, painting, farming and general sprucing up at the campus of Green Chimneys school and farm in Brewster, NY (www.greenchimneys.org).

Divided into four groups, the Swiss Re employees worked in the Boni-Bel Organic Garden (the harvests of which are sold to raise money for the school), stripped and painted the roadside fences, spread mulch in the high ropes course area, and even cleaned the barn stalls.

Several Green Chimneys students had the opportunity to leave class to spend time with the volunteers, learning firsthand about the importance of giving back to the community.

Among the Swiss Re volunteers were Weldon Wilson, Head of Global Admin Re & Run-Off, Client Markets; Adrienne Atwell, Senior Client Manager, FS Origination; Frank O’Neill, Head of the Client Markets Sales Team; and Mark Lescault, Casualty Hub Consultant and a member of the Green Chimneys Board.

“We are proud to support this organization,” says Mark. “Although our business objectives may be different, we share the common goal of sustainability.”

Founded in 1947, Green Chimneys is a nationally renowned school and working farm that utilizes unique animal-assisted therapy methods to teach children with emotional, behavioral and learning challenges. Swiss Re has been a corporate sponsor and supporter of Green Chimneys for eight years due to our mutual commitments to sustainability and community service.
