Lukas Müller
There are people here from most other professions, including many insurers. But reinsurers? Lukas Müller is the exception. Lukas studied reinsurance at a commercial school, then came straight to Swiss Re. Why? "Reinsurance covers a lot of territory. There's a lot of diversity, a lot of room for personal development."
Did it work for him? Ten years later, Lukas holds an Executive Masters in Business Administration and is a client manager for a number of Middle Eastern countries transitioning from oil economies to a broader industrial base. "Protecting this development is a challenge for the insurance industry, and Swiss Re is there with the expertise. It's fascinating to watch the countries change: for example, to see the demand for insurance develop from industrial-only into the personal lines – because people just have more to insure."
"It is imperative for me to be able to rely on and work closely with my team. I liaise with the desk managers and underwriters who keep me informed about the latest product developments. I also have a mutual deputisation arrangement with my client manager colleagues when I away travelling or during other absences."
"I'm not the back-office type", says Lukas. "I like client contact, like to experience different cultures. I want to develop products that fulfil a need."
Back in Zurich, Lukas has become a member of Swiss Re’s Management Development Network. In addition, he represents Division Asia as a review board member for Swiss Re’s Client Management System, a tool that supports the active steering of client management processes for all Swiss Re clients and business partners.
