Adrienne Atwell
Who knows the workings of the real world – from global warming to the side effects of pharmaceuticals – better than the scientist? This is why so many people from scientific disciplines find their way to Swiss Re: people like Adrienne Atwell.
Adrienne is head of Swiss Re America's environmental unit and was promoted to a member of senior management in 2002. After completing her degree in environmental studies, she managed public funding for R&D projects in alternative energy before moving into insurance.
She joined Swiss Re three years ago. "Swiss Re's global reach impressed me, and the fact that it is a learning company." Adrienne supported the launch of Swiss Re's Environmental Knowledge Network, organizes the annual Worldwide Environmental Underwriting Seminar, and serves as the US representative on the Environmental Core Team.
Adrienne's business goal: to position Swiss Re as the premier environmental reinsurer. "You must know the risk inside and out," she says. "It's this knowledge that you transform into business opportunity."
Working for a global and diverse company also helps. "You don't want to write a standard risk. You want to help shape a solution. Swiss Re's extensive client relationships make it possible to partner with the client, to develop opportunity from the ground up." Applied expertise can produce a win-win-win situation. The client is a winner… and Swiss Re… and the environment.
