Special risks

Risks accepted as special risks vary greatly from one insurer or market to another. What constitutes a special risk may be very rigidly defined or may cover a broader spectrum of hazards.

Swiss Re categorises special risks as follows:

  • Cancellation of events, film insurance and special risks such as prize indemnity, over-redemption, extended warranty and the like, which may be grouped together under the title of contingency covers
  • Banking cover such as bankers' blanket bond, computer crime, unauthorised trading, bankers' professional indemnity, cash-in-safe and cash-in-transit insurance
  • Fine arts and specie cover and the like, such as special burglary insurance, jeweller's block, diamond dealers, etc.

Swiss Re's special risks unit deals with all the above lines on a worldwide basis, continually enhancing its expertise and knowledge of new products to optimally support primary insurers and the needs of their clients.
