David Godfrey

Member of the Executive Board, Head of Financial Markets Legacy Portfolio

David Godfrey was appointed Head of Financial Markets Legacy Portfolio in August 2008, prior to which he had been responsible for Financial Markets Products since November 2007, when he was appointed to the Executive Board. In his current role, he will have responsibility for those activities and businesses of Financial Markets no longer considered core or strategic to the firm’s activities in financial markets.

David Godfrey, a British citizen born in 1950, holds a BA Honours degree from the University of Nottingham. After initially joining NatWest in 1972, he then worked for fifteen years at Bankers Trust Company in London, New York and Los Angeles in a variety of roles including Leveraged Finance, Real Estate lending and as senior risk officer for Europe, Middle East and Africa. After a short spell at UBS (then Swiss Bank Corporation), he worked for JP Morgan Chase & Co. and its predecessor firm JP Morgan, most recently as Group Credit Executive, Capital Markets, Europe and Asia based in London. Prior to that appointment he held the position of Chief Underwriting Officer, Credit Markets, based in New York.

He joined Swiss Re in March 2002 as Chief Risk Officer of the Financial Services Business Group and, in September 2005, was appointed head of Credit and Financial Market Risk Management for Swiss Re. He is Chairman of Swiss Re Capital Markets Limited, CEO of Swiss Re Financial Products Corporation, a member of the Swiss Re Americas Board, and Chairman of Swiss Re Capital Markets (Japan).
