SEPA - State Environmental Protection Administration
The Centre for Environmental Education & Communications at the State Environmental Protection Administration of China (SEPA) is charged with promoting environmental awareness among Chinese youth. With its economy booming, the pressures on China's environment are probably greater than anywhere else.
Swiss Re has set up a programme of environmental awareness competitions with SEPA in an effort to disseminate knowledge to young Chinese people. These competitions are targeted at primary and secondary school students, and some universities. Younger participants are asked to submit essays or drawings, and older ones to conduct projects or write reports on various environmental subjects (eg “Caring for our Water Resources”). Information on the competition is distributed throughout the Chinese education system; winning projects are exhibited and winners invited to participate in a study visit.
